Our Story

Get to Know Us
The Parks League began in the 1960s with just two clubs: King Alfred and Hove Park. King Alfred Tennis Club was founded by June Ryan, who was originally coaching badminton at the King Alfred Leisure Centre. She began transferring her pupils from the sports hall to the nearby tennis courts, introducing them to the game and establishing what would become the tennis club.
Since then, King Alfred Tennis Club has been a long-standing fixture in the local tennis community, operating from the public courts on the Kingsway seafront in Hove. The club is a member of the Brighton & Hove Parks LTA and competes in the historic Parks League, one of Britain’s oldest city-wide tennis competitions, first established in 1930.
